Another MSSA title for boxer Darvesh

Christ Church School's Darvesh defeated St Xavier's Naman Chomal, 15-3, in the U-16 final (62 kg category). He led 3-0 in the first record, 7-1 in the second, before prevailing 15-3.

Another win at the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) boxing tournament enabled 14-year-old Ovais Darvesh clinch the title for the umpteenth time. Ovais has represented Maharashtra twice in the nationals and eight times in state tourneys.
Christ Church School's Darvesh defeated St Xavier's (Andheri) Naman Chomal, 15-3, in the U-16 final (under-62 kg category). He led 3-0 in the first record, 7-1 in the second, before prevailing 15-3.
"I could see fear in my opponent's eye. From that moment itself, I was sure I would win.
It was like a practice match for me, as I will be representing Maharashtra in the national event in Delhi in January," he said, adding that his dream was to represent the country. Ovais will represent Maharashtra in the sub-junior boy's category.
In the quarters, he knocked out ABVM School's Gaurav Solanki and beat St Sebastian's School's Krutik Palkar in the semifinal.
Darvesh won his first MSSA gold medal in 2007 as a class three student. In addition, he has won gold eight times at the state level.
